How we work
The studio's vision and working principles (Studio Hansen, October 2024).
What it is
A short slide document from October 2024 about why the studio exists and how we want to work together. It starts with the vision, then sums up the management ideas we follow, and lists how we communicate.
For us: Read it in your first week. Jan Henrik owns it. Parts of it are still drafts (see below).
The main points
- Vision: we want to create a new category of work. It uses art, architecture and the cognitive sciences to make spaces, landscapes, buildings and sculptures dedicated to consciousness. Our focus is where consciousness, art and architecture overlap.
- Management, after Fredmund Malik (“Führen, Leisten, Leben”): management is a profession you keep learning; decide what is right, not what is comfortable; aim for results; build on each person’s strengths; communicate clearly; develop people; manage yourself first.
- In the team: take ownership of your own area, make decisions within it, give and ask for feedback openly, and keep learning.
- Communication happens through meetings, email, the calendar, agendas and clear deliverables.
- Still to be written: what it means to lead a project, the leadership tool, and “minimal order” in the office. These pages hold placeholder text for now.
